Jeff Vioski Celebrates 10 Years in LA

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jeff Vioski, award-winning furniture designer, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his modern furniture showroom on La Brea in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 20, 2014

Over a decade ago, the demand for high end residential housing in Seattle decreased and there was record-breaking rain  Architect and designer Jeff Vioski made two decisions: He started to build the modern furniture designs he had sketched over the years, and relocated to Los Angeles. Today, these original sketches hang on the wall of his 4,000 sq. ft. Los Angeles showroom.  Jeff has been recognized five times by Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year, and has won twice. Eleven showrooms in the US and Australia carry his designs.

At an event for LA Innovation Week in October, Jeff said that his greatest inspiration is his architectural training and experience.  Each of Jeff’s designs have architectural underpinnings, are hand-made and well-built to last. His larger pieces are designed to “create a space”, while his smaller pieces are individuals, each with its own character to add personality to a room.

Two design movements that have inspired Jeff are mid-century and modern Italian design. The cohesive blending of these two movements is seen in Vioski’s newest design, the William Sofa.  The William Sofa has clean, straight lines and distinct angles, yet the design is softened through the curved, buttoned back and is balanced on thin yet architecturally strong legs.

Jeff is also inspired by his need for casual comfort and fun and claims, “If it’s not comfortable, it’s not worth it.” Fun is part of the design through unexpected surprises like movement and functionality. For example, the pieces of the Fratelli Chairs and Mitosi Sectional can be placed together to form one unit, or easily separated and rearranged in the room.

VIOSKI has not been without difficulties, and the great recession took a toll on the business.  Despite hardships, Vioski continued to manufacture in California and  create new products to keep customers enticed.  In 2013, the company increased marketing, sales and production to serve larger A&D firms and the hospitality industry. VIOSKI’s CEO Doug DeSantis said, “We work hard to run a lean and efficient business, and continue to provide a provide a premium product with lasting value for high-end residential and commercial customers.”

To mark the tenth anniversary, Jeff redesigned his award-winning Palms I Chair, using new techniques he developed. The back is higher, there is more neck and back support, and the chair has solid built-in legs.Today Vioski still builds with traditional wood frame techniques using metal springs and the best materials he can find.  He pushes the envelope on traditional furniture building through the thinness of the frames and the shapes of curves in the wood.  Backed with ten years of experience and his own techniques, Jeff is already sketching new designs to delight the next generation of modern.
